Module C focuses on extreme events that affect socio-economic systems. Therefore, this module focuses on the interaction of specific environmental conditions with the socio-economic system rather than on mere local extreme values of climatological parameters. Special emphasis is placed on so-called compound events, i.e. a specific combination of parameters that interact and are relevant in combination. Explicit analysis may asses the spatial extent of extremes, non-linearities in dependencies, the influence of non-climatic human factors, or vulnerability and exposure.
